About the Art
The Process:Woodburning, also known as pyrography, is a very precise artistic process using specialized tools to burn images onto wooden surfaces. Whether you desire a simple piece or one that is dramatic and detailed, Sue creates burning by hand to suit the unique specifications of each customer.
The Wood:For burning, Sue uses slab wood that is hand-cut and sanded to the size needed for the selected piece. Many types of wood are used, including pine, maple, spruce, oak, cedar, cherry, and others. The subject helps determine the type of wood to use. For example, if the picture is a wildlife scene, the wood is used completely as is; knots, grains, and colors in the wood become an integral part of the burning. If the subject is a portrait, Sue chooses a wood that is "clear", with less natural grain and fewer knots. Each piece is sealed to make a completely protected, finished product for a lifetime of enjoyment.
Options:Subjects for Sue's artwork include, but are not limited to: portraits, pets, plaques and wildlife. Art is an expression of beauty or feelings that can capture the imagination, or remind you of precious memories. Sue can customize each piece to become a special treasure! Clients often send photographs they would like to use as subjects for their pieces, such as a portrait of someone special, a picture of a favorite pet, or even a photo of their first home. Clients may also choose free-formed, natural-looking edges on their finished board, or a framed, straight-edged finish. |
